Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails played the Reading and Leeds Festivals in England over the weekend and, while the Friday night show in Leeds went well, Reznor lashed out at the promoters and headlining group Biffy Clryo on Twitter.
The Reading and Leeds festivals are held simultaneously in each of the towns on the last weekend of August with the Reading show being the oldest, starting in 1961, and Leeds added in 1999. Traditionally, the two festivals have shared the same bill switching off headliners and other acts on different days.
This years festival featured Green Day, Eminem and Biffy Clyro as headliners with Nine Inch Nails in support of the latter on Friday in Leeds and Sunday in Reading. On Friday, the band was allowed to use the backdrop with visuals, special effects and lighting that had been part of their reunion tour on Friday but were not able to use their full production on Sunday.
Reznor took to Twitter to air his views on the situation, criticizing the promoter and taking a potshot at Biffy Clyro.
Should be an unusual show tonight in Reading…
…the lying promoter and the band following us (whoever the fuck they are) fucked us on our production.
Melvin Benn of the Reading Festival told NME “The truth is there’s no truth in the statement. The contract hasn’t changed since they signed up to it.”
