Songs performed and played at the Olympic Closing Ceremony yesterday are dominating the UK iTunes chart today (August 14).
‘Read All About It’ by Emeli Sande at 3, ‘One Day Like This’ by Elbow at 4 and ‘Running Up That Hill’ by Kate Bush at 5 were the three biggest movers. John Lennon ‘Imagine’ at 9 is currently also in the Top 10.
The Olympics Closing Ceremony also loved Muse with ‘Survival’ (12), George Michael ‘White Light’ (17) and Ed Sheeran ‘Wish You Were Here’ (20) into the Top 20.
Elsewhere on iTunes UK are Oasis ‘Wonderwall’ (21), One Direction ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ (24) and the original ‘Wish You Were Here’ by Pink Floyd is also at 40.
The Who didn’t show until 50 with ‘Baba O’Reilly’, their opening song in the finale. Spice Girls and Annie Lennox fared even worse with ‘Spice Up Your Life’ down at 66 and ‘Little Bird’ at 69.
Ray Davies version of his Kinks classic ‘Waterloo Sunset’ is at 71, Electric Light Orchestra’s ‘Mr Blue Sky’ is at 76 and despite his starring performance Eric Idle of Monty Python is at 80 with ‘Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life’.
American’s were extremely blasé after the performances. The highest performed Olympics song is One Direction ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ at 20. Australia cared even less. The biggest Olympic song on iTunes Australia is ‘Read All About It’ by Emelie Sande at 32.
