OMD distil their trailblazing electronic sound into a brand new single, ‘Dresden’, which is out May 27th on 100% Records and which is taken from their new LP ‘English Electric’, out now.
Written, recorded, produced and mixed by OMD, stacked synths occupy the higher register on a wistful slab of electro-pop which doubles up as a metaphor for pain and loss. ‘It follows in the great OMD tradition of a soaring pop melody, over a driving bass capped with a melancholy lyric,” explains the band’s Andy McCluskey.
In their celebratory 4* album review, MOJO called the track an ‘earworm’ and trumpeted ”Dresden’, ‘Night Café’ and ‘The Future Will Be Silent’ might just be some of their best ever pieces.’
The single has been remixed by ex Ultravox man John Foxx ‘ who supports OMD on the forthcoming UK Tour ‘ as well as Mike Jolly, Bounce Darkside and Helsinki’s Zebra and Snake, among others.
The original four-piece ‘ Andy McCluskey, Paul Humphreys, Malcolm Holmes and Martin Cooper ‘ will be reunited once again this spring for a string of must-see shows, which commemorate the band’s 35th anniversary, including London’s Roundhouse May 3rd.
