What looks like a Jimmy Kimmel driven stunt began when the 30 Rock comedian Tracy Morgan pretended to pass out on stage during the Emmy Awards.
“Jimmy Kimmel just made Tracy Morgan lay down on stage and asked tweeters to tweet, “OMG Tracy Morgan just passed out on stage,” said one tweeter.
The publicity stunt was tweeted as ‘OMG Tracy Morgan just passed out on stage. Turn on ABC now’. It caused an immediate Twitter trend.
Twitter has been responsible (or should we say irresponsible) for many a false celebrity death and now it appears the celebrities are getting in on the act doing it as well.
Stephen Colbert, John Stewart and Rosie O’Donnell were just some of the celebrities who played along. Colbert was retweeted 2375 times in just 13 minutes.
The stunt generated 25,000 tweets in minutes.
