One Direction’s hiatus will be a permanent split, according to boy band guru Louis Walsh.
The svengali, who was a judge on the U.K.’s X Factor in 2010 when One Direction were formed, believes Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles won’t get back together for at least a decade.
Asked if he thought the boy band had split for good in a new interview with The Telegraph on Thursday (25Aug16), Louis, who managed Irish boy bands Westlife and Boyzone, said, “Yeah, I would say so.”
Claiming they were the “best things to come out of the X Factor financially,” he reiterated the band wouldn’t be making a comeback. “It’s not going to happen, nope. No, definitely not. It’s over, they had their run, all over. It’s done and it was an amazing career.”
And Louis fears the band members won’t be as successful outside the group as they think they are going to be.
“Some of them believed the hype and then everyone around them – publicists, agents, managers – were afraid to tell them because they were making so much money out of them,” Louis said.
Walsh also insists One Direction, like all the acts who have tasted success after appearing on the X Factor, often forget where they came from, and owe their careers to Simon Cowell.
“Simon’s made so many people millionaires, but not everybody’s loyal to him,” he explained. “We create monsters in the music business. They only become famous because they’ve been on the show and we got you those songs. They’re lucky fucks, but some get a sense of entitlement and believe the hype. Too many artists appear to forget where they came from.”
