One Direction will have the number one album in the USA this week dethroning Bruce Springsteen.
One Direction’s debut ‘Up All Night’ sold around 176,000 units in the past week, according to SoundScan.
That makes them the first British group ever to debut at number one in America with their debut album. In digital sales, ‘Up All Night’ went to number one within minutes of official release. Last week in New York, more than 10,000 fans turned up to watch them perform for the Today Show in the Rockefeller Plaza.
The good news for One Direction is bad news for The Boss. Bruce Springsteen ‘Wrecking Ball’ dropped to number four in week two losing 71% of last weeks sales tally to do around 57,000 units. That placed ‘Wrecking Ball’ behind Adele ‘21’ at 2 and Guns ‘n Roses ‘Greatest Hits’ at 3.
Guns ‘n Roses picked up new interest after their 3-day “tour” of Los Angeles clubs. The album will not be included on the official Billboard chart because it sold for 25c through Google Music and Amazon.
