Original Doobie Brothers member Patrick Simmons and his wife, Cris Sommer Simmons, will drive across the country on their 1934 and 1929 Harley-Davidson motorcycles on the 2014 Cannonball Endurance Run.
The couple will drive over 4,100 miles from Daytona, FL to Takoma, WA from September 5 to 21 in the event that highlights the power and endurance of motorcycles built before 1936.
Simmons said “Cris and I are excited, and so ready to head out on the 2014 Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run. We have been working on our bikes for over a year now.”
Cris was the only female out of 45 riders to participate in the inaugural run in 2010, finishing in twentieth. She is an author and a member of the National Motorcycle Hall of Fame and the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
The run also raises money for Stand Up For Cancer. Patrick and Cris’ son, Pat, Jr., recently battled testicular cancer and is now cancer free.
The Doobie Brothers new album, Southbound, will be released on November 4.
