Patti Page, best known for the classics ‘Tennessee Waltz’ and ‘(How Much Is) That Doggie In The Window’, has died in California at the age of 85.
The legendary singer died in New Years Day, according to her publicist Schatzi Hagerman. The Grammy Awards were to honour Ms Page with a Lifetime Achievement Award next month.
Patti Page was born Clara Ann Fowler on November 8, 1927. She was the best selling female artist of the 1950s, selling over 100 million records.
Patti signed with Mercury Records in 1947 and released her first single ‘Confess’ in 1948.
In 1950 she recorded ‘Tennessee Waltz. It became one of the biggest selling songs of the 20th century and spent 13 weeks at the top of the Billboard chart in 1950.
Patti recorded ‘(How Much Is) That Doggie In The Window’ in December, 1952. It reached number one on Billboard in 1953.
In 2007, Jack White recorded her song ‘Conquest’ for The White Stripes ‘Icky Thump’ album.
Patti worked right up to her death. She was the host of a weekly radio show on the ‘Music Of Your Life’ Radio Network and performed 50 shows in the past year.
She will be honoured posthumously at the Grammy Awards next month.
