Patti Smith has written a song about the late Amy Winehouse which will appear as a tribute on Smith’s next album.
“The little song for Amy just blossomed in the studio,” Smith said in an interview with Uncut. “We were at Electric Lady doing a whole other song and I wrote Amy a little poem when she died and my bass player, Tony Shanahan, wrote a piece of music and the two matched perfectly.”
Smith also wrote a song for actress Maria Schneider that will appear on the album. Schneider died in February, 2011 at the age of 58.
There is no word on when the album will be released or what it will be called.
