Paul Kelly ‘Firewood and Candles’ was won Song of the Year at the APRA Awards in Sydney beating out songs by Jessica Mauboy, Ainslie Wills, Amy Shark and Gang of Youths.
‘Firewood and Candles’ was written by Kelly with Billy Miller of The Ferrets.
The coveted Songwriter of the Year award has gone to Briggs and Trials as A.B. Original who pushed the boundaries of Australian rap with ‘Reclaim Australia’.
2018 APRA Awards presenters were Isabella Manfredi, Tracey Spicer, Kasey Chambers, Adam Eckersley, Brooke McClymont, Starley Hope, Andrew Farriss, Managing Director at Sony/ATV Music Publishing Australia Damian Trotter, Amber Lawrence, and Hilltop Hoods.
Song of the Year nominee Ainslie Wills performed her new single, Society as a tribute to outgoing APRA CEO Brett Cottle. Arnhem Land’s Baker Boy opened the event with his Marryuna while an all-star super group featuring Suze DeMarchi and Baby Animals, Adalita and Isabella Manfredi paid musical tribute to Midnight Oil.
