Paul McCartney’s Nineteen Hundred and Eight Five’ is finally an A-side 42 years after it first appeared on a single.
McCartney wrote ‘Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five’ for his 1973 Wings album ‘Band On The Run’. The song was also a b-side to the title track.
‘Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five’ was a post-apocalyptic reference to George Orwell’s 1984 one year on. The first line started “no one left alive in 1985, will ever do”. Some critics called the lyrics ‘gibberish’ but they were united in to potency of the music.
A 7inch vinyl of the single was released for Record Store Day. Those copies now go for upwards of $300.
The song is now available for general download.
