Paul McCartney’s featured role on ‘FourFiveSeconds’ by Rihanna and Kanye West has earned him his best position on the Billboard Hot 100 in thirty years.
FourFiveSeconds jumps 54 to 15 this week with an almost guaranteed appearance in the top ten sometime in the next two weeks after the three artists perform the song on this Sunday’s Grammy broadcast.
McCartney’s last top ten record came in 1985 when the theme from Spies Like Us went to number 7. Since then, only eleven of his singles have made the Hot 100 with only three, 1986’s Press (#21), 1989’s My Brave Face (#25) and 2014’s Only One (Kanye West Featuring Paul McCartney, #35), making the top 40. The last record by McCartney to make the top five and number 1 was 1983’s Say Say Say with Michael Jackson.
In other news, in the U.K., Bob Dylan may get his eighth number 1 album with the covers album Shadows in the Night. The critically hailed set is currently outpacing both Ed Sheeran’s X and Meghan Traynor’s Title for the top seller of the week.
Dylan’s other U.K. number 1 albums:
The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan (1963)
Bringing It All Back Home (1965)
John Wesley Harding (1967)
Nashville Skyline (1969)
Self Portrait (1970)
New Morning (1970)
Together Through Life (2009)
Also showing very strong on the mid-week British Albums chart is Dire Straits’ 1985 set Brothers in Arms which is currently at number 4.
