Paul McCartney and the surviving members of Nirvana divided music fans last week with their performance of the new song Cut Me Some Slack at the Hurricane Sandy benefit gig in New York. Well now the argument can continue with the studio version.
When Nirvana fans realised there was to be a new song and not McCartney singing one of their old favourites there seemed to be a collective sigh of relief. That polished guitar sound is a million miles away from anything Kurt Cobain would have pumped out and perhaps through the influence of Foo Fighters Dave Grohl and Pat Smear (the latter of whom was a touring member of Nirvana). Perhaps the closest thing McCartney did to this was in his side project with Killing Joke bassist Youth – The Fireman – in particular their 2008 album Electric Arguments.
The song is available from the Sound City soundtrack. You can preorder the whole album by clicking here or if you want this song right now, follow that same link and you can buy it there.
