Paul Rodgers is to be honoured by the Music Business Association with its Chairman’s Award.
The Music Business Association (Music Biz) was formed by NARM (National Association of Record Merchandisers) and digitalmusic.org as a non-profit organisation to advance and promote music commerce. The new organization will hold their Music Biz 2014 from May 6 to 8 at the Los Angeles Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.
James Donio, president of Music Biz, said “The mark of truly special artists is how they are able to continue to create vital work throughout their careers, and Paul Rodgers fully embodies that definition. His early hits with Free and Bad Company have become defining moments in the history of Rock and Roll, and his tireless work ethic has brought him back to the recording studio once again for his excellent new solo album The Royal Sessions.”
Rachelle Friedman, Chairman of Music Biz Board of Directors added “Paul Rodgers is a shining example of everything the Chairman’s Award stands for, as he has not only achieved tremendous success throughout his long career but also continues to produce high-quality music today. From guiding three different bands to worldwide success, to launching a successful solo career, to filling in for Freddie Mercury in a new incarnation of Queen, he has proven willing and able to take on any challenge and emerge on top. He is more than deserving of this prestigious award, and I will be honored to present it to him at Music Biz 2014.”
Rodgers first hit the U.S. top ten in 1970 singing lead on All Right Now. He did it again 1974 with Bad Company on Can’t Get Enough and again in 1975 with Feel Like Makin’ Love. He also took lead duties in The Firm, The Law and Queen + Paul Rodgers.
Rodgers’ award is one of four given during the annual Awards Luncheon. Also being honored are Dee Snyder (Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award), Ariana Grande (Breakthrough Artist of the Year) and the Frozen Soundtrack (Outstanding Achievement Award).
