The fund is used to provide “health care to the nation’s most medically underserved children”.
Over the years, Simon has held a number of charity concerts and benefits and has spoken for the fund with government officials in Washington. He also travelled with the CHF team to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
The singer is really going to town with the 25th Anniversary Children’s Benefit Concert which will be held on October 4 at Radio City Music Hall. He has lined up a number of celebrity couples to speak and perform during the event including:
Ruben Blades and Luba Mason
Tina Fey and Jeff Richmond
Amy Grant and Vince Gill
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson
Sting and Trudie Styler
James Taylor and Caroline Taylor
Stevie Wonder and Aisha Morris
Paul, himself and Edie Brickell
Steve Martin
Additional surprise guests
Hosting a pre-show VIP event will be Julianne Moore and Children’s Health Fund board member Jane Pauley.
In addition, the Founders Award will be presented to Simon Fuller, creator and executive producer of American Idol and the Corporate Award to Dr. David Pullman, President of Global Manufacturing and Supply for GlaxoSmithKline.
A showdown between new technology and the musicians who provide the product is looming in congress with a bill that would greatly adjust the royalties paid for the broadcasting of copyrighted music.
