Pearl Jam gave Adelaide four covers on their never-ending setlist at Big Day Out on Friday.
Hunters & Collectors ‘Throw Your Arms Around Me’ (also performed in Sydney) made the Adelaide set as did MC5’s ‘Kick Out The Jams’ (also played in Melbourne).
Pink Floyd’s ‘Mother’ also got a run in Adelaide. Pearl Jam have long been including ‘Another Brick In The Wall’, also a Floyd The Wall classic, as part of the outro to ‘Daughter’.
The Who ‘Baby O’Reilly’ was played for the 135th time at a Pearl Jam show. The only other act to perform ‘Baby O’Reilly’ more than Pearl Jam is The Who. Other band’s that perform the song in concert include Mr Big (44 times), The Gaslight Anthem (37 times) and Dropkick Murphys (19 times). Bon Jovi have also played it six times and it has also been performed live twice by Nirvana and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The rarest played song in the Adelaide set was ‘My Father’s Son’ from the new album ‘Lightning Bolt’. Pearl Jam have only performed the song three times previously. This was the first time it was played in any of the prior Big Day Out sets.
