Peter Gabriel says that all it would take to put Genesis back together is a “large brown envelope”.
Gabriel founded Genesis in 1967 and left the band in 1975 after the band’s masterpiece ‘The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway’. After his departure, Genesis drummer Phil Collins took up lead vocal duties. Collins left in 1996 and the band carried on for one more album ‘Calling All Stations’ with new singer Ray Wilson. The band went into hiatus in 1999 but reformed with Collins for a European and North America tour in 2007.
In 1999, Gabriel went back into the studio with Genesis to record a new version of ‘The Carpet Crawlers’ for the ‘Turn It On Again’ compilation. Collins and Gabriel also performed together in 2002 at Peter’s wedding.
While Gabriel is talking up his new album ‘New Blood’ at the moment, he has confirmed to New York radio station Q104.3 that there have been “great offers” to get the band back together again.
