Peter Garrett’s first ever solo album is titled ‘A Version of You’.
Garrett decided to record a solo album while he was writing his autobiography. “As I was finishing my memoir, melodies and lines kept dropping into my head and, big surprise, I ended up writing a few songs,” Garrett said in a statement. “Once these tunes were out in the sunlight I decided I might as well jump into a studio and record what I had along with a few other bits and pieces I’d always liked.“
‘A Version of Now’ was recorded in Sydney at Rancom Studios in Botany in late January with producer Burke Reid. “I wanted to capture my version of now,” says Garrett. “The songs are reflections of turbulent decades on the rack, and the people and things that meant the most to me.”
In the first song ‘Tall Trees’ Garrett declares “I’m back” ….like Rupert Murdoch’s latest swag”.
The only Midnight Oil member to appear on the album is Martin Rotsey on guitar. The band is Pete Luscombe (Paul Kelly) on drums and Mark Wilson (Jet) on bass with Heather Shannon (The Jezabels) and Jamie Hutchings (Bluebottle Kiss) as well as all three of Peter’s daughters – Emily, May and Grace.
‘A Version of You’ will be released on July 15, 2016.
Midnight Oil will reform for shows in 2017.
