Playwright Tom Stoppard has created a new radio drama for BBC 2 influenced by Pink Floyd’s album Dark Side of the Moon.
Not only was the play, titled simply Darkside and airing this Monday at 10 PM GMT, influenced by the music, but most of the album is used in the course of the hour. Stoppard said “I used a lot of the album, well all of it other than the lyrics, as a kind of underscore. I was picking up emotional cues from the music.”
The play is meant to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of the album with a story the BBC calls “a fantastical story about fear, philosophy and madness, which is woven together with the original music.”
Here is a two minute clip of audio from the production with special visuals by Aardman Studios.
