Pitbull will guest star in series two of Empire, it has been confirmed.
The Fireball singer will play himself in a fall episode of the hit Fox drama, which stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson. The 34-year-old will also perform the song No Doubt About It with character Jamal, played by Jussie Smollett.
The star is the latest in a series of famous faces who have been confirmed to be appearing in season two. Show creator Lee Daniels put his foot in it earlier this week by revealing at Mariah Carey’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony that the Dreamlover singer will also be appearing on the programme.
‘Watch her on Empire you guys! She’s coming on Empire!’ he enthusiastically noted. But the contract has not yet been put in place, leaving Lee in fear over upsetting his managers.
“I’m already in trouble with my publicist,’ he joked.
Other stars confirmed for the series two include Chris Rock, Kelly Rowland, Marisa Tomei, Ludacris and Adam Rodriguez.
It’s a busy time for Lee, who directed Mariah in 2009 film Precious. It was reported on Thursday that the 55-year-old is currently working on Star, another musical drama set in Atlanta, Georgia which focuses on three girls coming together to form a band and strive to be a success.
Deadline reports that Fox has ordered the pilot episode of the show.
‘The project features a lot of Lee’s own DNA and represents a new perspective, that of the artist,’ Fox’s Dana Walden said at the network’s TCA session. ‘The setup lends to a great soap operatic storytelling machine.’
