Three superstar producers lead the 35-member hip-hop collective Quakers, and deliver their first release.
The three producers at the centre of Quakers are Fuzzface (Geoff Barrow of trip-hop stars Portishead), 7-Stu-7 (Portishead’s engineer and the in-house producer at UK’s Invada Records) and Katalyst (Invada Records partner and renowned Australian producer).
According to a press release, they were unhappy with the direction of current hip-hop and set out to make their own, with their favourite rhymers, including Prince Po, The Pharcyde’s Booty Brown, Dead Prez, Phat Kat, Guilty Simpson, MED, Jonwayne, Dave Dub, Coin Locker Kid, Lyric Jones, Estee Nack, and soul sensation Aloe Blacc.
Initially some music from the ‘group’ appeared on the soundtrack for Banksy’s excellent 2011 street art doc Exit Through the Gift Shop.
Now they present the mammoth 41-track Quakers album, which will be out on Stones Throw Records through Fuse in Australia on March 27.
Check out one of the 41, the Radiohead-sampling ‘Fitta Happier’, featuring Guilty Simpson and MED.
