Powderfinger Drummer Jon Coghill Not Invited To Reunion

by Paul Cashmere on July 24, 2017

in News

Powderfinger’s reunion at Splendour In The Grass on Saturday was actually 80% of Powerfinger, not the complete band. It turns out drummer Jon Coghill wasn’t invited.

Coghill says he found out about the reunion when he started receiving text messages on Saturday night. I didn’t even know about it,” Jon told the Sunshine Coast Daily.

“I just was surprised to tell the truth.”

Coghill now works for the ABC on the Sunshine Coast. His former band performed two songs without him at Splendour In The Grass. The other members Darren Middleton, Ian Haug and John Collins joined Bernard Fanning during his solo set for the two classics ‘These Days’ and ‘(Baby I’ve Got You) On My Mind’.

Coghill wasn’t the original Powderfinger drummer. He joined in 1991 replacing Steven Bishop but was there to play on every Powderfinger album from ‘Parables for Wooden Ears’ in 1994 through to the final album ‘Golden Rule’ in 2009.

Cogill told the Sunshine Coast Daily that he was at home on Saturday looking after his daughter. He told the newspaper that the thought that all was good was his former mates and he doesn’t know why he wasn’t asked to join in.
