PPCA, the organisation representing the rights of artists and record labels, distributed a record $25 million to artists during the financial year ending June, 2011.
The $25 million was a 23% increase to artists on the previous year.
PPCA CEO Dan Rosen said in a statement, “It is a wonderful achievement and credit to the team here at PPCA as they work hard to ensure that all Australian artists and record labels are properly rewarded for their creative work and economic spend, when their music is used in businesses across the country.”
However, not all labels have registered with PPCA and miss out on the revenue. “I encourage all artists and record labels to register with PPCA so that they receive proper compensation wen their music is used to drive and grow a business,” Dan said.
PPCA licences around 55,000 businesses across Australia to use sound recordings in a public performance.
