Primus Drummer Tim Alexander Suffers Heart Attack

Tim Alexander, drummer for the band Primus, suffered a heart attack on Thursday.

Word came on Friday afternoon from his other band, Puscifer, who tweeted:

Calling All Cars! Rough news. @timalexander suffered a heart attack. Open Heart Surgery on Mon/Tues. Global Positive Thoughts, Por favor. @Puscifer We need our Herb the Ginseng Drummer aka Peter Merkin alive and thieving.

Les Claypool posted his own notification early Saturday evening:

Hello all,

As some of you may already know, our friend and über drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander is having a bypass procedure to remove blockage from arteries near his heart. He is a strong Herculean fellow and we all expect him to be up and around in no time but with all surgical endeavors we want to make sure he has the best energy working for him so let’s all throw our coins in the nearest fountain, wish on the first star of the night, blow out the birthday cake candles with him in mind, pray to whichever deity seems appropriate and generally send good thoughts his way so we can soon, once again, experience the glory that is the magnificent percussive rhythm of the mighty Tim Alexander.

Alexander is expected to have open heart surgery on Monday or Tuesday. Primus’ next performance is September 12 in Maplewood, MN.

Tim Alexander replaced Jay Lane in Primus in 1988 and stayed with them until 1996, returning from 2003 to 2010 and again in 2013. Other bands with which he played include Laundry, A Perfect Circle, the Presence and Puscifer along with the theatrical Blue Man Group.

Toto’s 2025 setlist focuses on the heritage of the band. The setlist was interesting. Compared to how it was curated for Australia in 2019 this time Toto kept to the albums of the 1900s. Mind you, there were no complaints from the audience for doing that. The biggest hits came from those early years.
