Prince sold 4.41 million albums in singles last week, the first full chart week since his death.
Billboard notes that Prince’s record would have actually been a tie but, due to changes in chart methodology, Michael Jackson and the Beatles were not eligible for the Billboard 200 at the time that they would have equaled the record. When Jackson died and when the Beatles’ catalog came to digital, older albums were relegated to the Catalog Albums chart. Each would have had five in the top ten had the charts been combined.
One of the albums, HITNRUN Phase Two, is making its chart debut this week based on sales only from the Tidal service. As of this past Friday, the first day of the new chart week, it became available through all retailers, so expect it to jump next week.
On the Hot 100, Prince has eight tracks in the top 40 including two in the top ten:
04. Purple Rain

20. Little Red Corvette
23. Kiss
25. Let’s Go Crazy
