Music icon Prince has released an official music video for his new song Breakfast Can Wait.
The highly anticipated video was directed by 18-year old Danielle Curiel, who also stars in the video alongside a crew of seasoned dancers. Prince granted Curiel complete artistic and directorial freedom after one reading of the treatment she submitted for the song.
Breakfast Can Wait was the #2 most added single at Urban radio last week and generated significant online coverage when it was initially released last month. Prince debuted the single’s satirical artwork, featuring Dave Chappelle dressed up as the music icon, along with a teaser clip for the video through his @3RDEYEGIRL Twitter account.
The multi-platinum hit maker, who has been electively absent from social media until recently, has taken to Twitter, YouTube and Livestream through recent months, posting photos, interacting directly with fans and streaming exclusive performance snippets from various locations around the world.
Along with his 21-piece supergroup, The New Power Generation, he unveiled a special showcase for fans last weekend (Oct 5th) at his legendary Paisley Park recording studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The event marked his first publicly announced performance at Paisley since 2009. Prince posted a thank you video to fans shortly after the show, below.
The Minneapolis based superstar has been recording highly anticipated new music with the New Power Generation and his rock band 3RDEYEGIRL, featuring guitarist Donna Grantis, bassist Ida Nielsen and drummer Hannah Ford. Although release dates have yet to be set, the tentative title of Plectrum Electrum has been announced for 3RDEYEGIRL’s debut album expected early 2014.
