Queen have played their first show in Australia in 30 years in Perth with Adam Lambert on lead vocals.
While an American Idol seems a strange choice as frontman, think about the flamboyant pop star who originally fronted the rock band.
Mercury was a pop star, Queen were a rock band. When Queen placed Bad Company/Free singer Paul Rodgers in as frontman they failed miserably. Rock upon Rock is not how the Queen formula works.
Lambert is pure, outrageous pop. He is the perfect replacement for Freddie Mercury. He can recreate the sentiment without fiddling with the formula. Lambert makes Queen live possible and still relevant where Rodgers kept them musically credible but dated.
