Queen are planning a sequel to their hit musical ‘We Will Rock You’.
We Will Rock You, the London West End show that is about to close after twelve years, may get a sequel.
Brian May spoke with BBC Radio Wales recently and said, for the first time, that the sequel is fairly far along in development. May commented “We are working on a sequel, yes. In fact we’ve already very secretly and quietly workshopped it, which means that you stand it up, you get people to sing and act it. And everybody loved it, so we’re looking for a theatre and we hope to have a sequel out there ‘at some point’. More than this I cannot say.”
According to May, Brian Elton is once again writing the book for the show. Along with We Will Rock You, Elton also write the book for Love Never Dies, the sequel to Phantom of the Opera.
The original We Will Rock You opened at the Dominion Theatre in London on May 14, 2002 and is due to close this coming Saturday. It’s currently number 14 on the list of longest running shows in the history of London’s West End. Since then, almost forty international productions of the show have been mounted.
We Will Rock You includes such Queen songs as Somebody to Love, Killer Queen, Under Pressure, Seven Seas of Rhye and We Are the Champions.
