Brian May and Roger Taylor are taking some time off from Queen while their current lead singer, Adam Lambert, works on his solo career.
May talked to Gigwise at last week’s Ivor Novello Awards, telling them that the band is not currently pursuing a new album with Lambert out front. “It’s not coming along. No, we’re not doing that. Not at the moment, anyway. We might but, at the moment we’re watching with interest while Adam pursues his solo career and it seems to be going very well. He’s an amazing, amazing artist, and there’s no getting away from that. It’s very interesting to watch him develop.
“We’re conscious that he doesn’t want to be with us all the time. That would be so wrong for us to just envelop him and never let him go off and do anything else. So it’s very important that his own career is progressing now. We’re looking forward to being back together in September to do Rock In Rio, and some dates in Argentina and Venezuela, I believe.”
Although he lost season eight of American Idol to Kris Allen, Lambert was the big winner coming out of the show’s finale after performing We Are the Champions with Taylor and May. That night, a new mutual admiration society was born as May was a regular supporter of Adam as he began to build his new career.
In 2011, Lambert joined queen for the MTV Europe Music Awards and, in 2012, May announced that Lambert would be joining Queen for their performance at the U.K.’s Sonisphere Festival in July, a show that was preceded by a warm-up gig in Kiev the month before.
The full pairing finally came together at the 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas which was a prelude to their first major tour as Adam Lambert + Queen which lasted into early 2015.
