Film director Quentin Tarantino completely lost it in an interview with British news reporter Krishnan Guru-Murthy, refusing to answer a question about violence and telling Guru-Murthy that the interview was his commercial.
Krishnan Guru-Murthy is evening newsreader for Channel 4 UK and also presents the foreign affairs program Unreported World.
Tarentino was in London to talk about his new movie ‘Django Unchained’. The Hollywood director is clearly used to dealing with shallow, fluff pieces designed to sell his tickets and was not prepared for the hard-questions about what he actually does for a living.
When asked if he was sure there was no link between enjoying movie violence and enjoying real violence. “I refuse your question. I’m not your slave and you’re not my master,” Tarantino snapped. “You can’t make me dance to your tunes. I’m not a monkey.”
The interview got even more bizarre when Tarentino suggested he was only doing the interview as a commercial for his movie. “I’m here to sell my movie. This is a commercial for the movie, make no mistake. I don’t want to talk about what you want to talk about,” he said.
Tarentino justified not talking about violence in the interview because he said he had already spoken about it many times and if people cared about what he thought they could Google him.
“It’s my job to ask you,” Guru-Murthy said. “And I’m shutting your butt down. This is a commercial for my movie,” barked Tarentino. “I have explained this many times in the last 20 years. I refuse to repeat myself over and over again because you want me to for you and your show and you rating”.
Krishnan tried to set the Hollywood director straight but to no avail. “This is a news program. It’s not a film program so we explore serious themes. That’s the difference.”
