R.E.M. are honoring the 25th anniversary of their landmark Automatic For The People by rereleasing the multiplatinum album in a variety of formats, the most extensive of which is the Deluxe Anniversary Edition that contains the very first commercially available music mixed in Dolby Atmos, delivering an immersive and engaging experience.

Craft Recordings, the catalog division of Concord Music Group, will release the 25th Anniversary and Deluxe Anniversary editions of the landmark album on November 10. The Deluxe Anniversary Edition will offer a wide-ranging array of previously unreleased material the band selected, including 20 never-before-heard demos from the LP’s sessions, including the fully-realized, unreleased track “Mike’s Pop Song” and the oft-mused about song, “Devil Rides Backwards.”

Also included in both the 25th Anniversary and Deluxe editions of the album, which was remastered from the original analog tapes by Stephen Marcussen, is a full live set from Live At The 40 Watt Club 11/19/92. Performed in R.E.M.’s hometown of Athens, GA, it was the band’s only live show that year.

Automatic’s original producer Scott Litt and engineer Clif Norrell returned to oversee the album’s Dolby Atmos remix, delivering an outstanding experience with moving audio that fills the room and flows all around the listener. In addition, the album also contains the bonus track “Photograph,” featuring Natalie Merchant, mixed in Dolby Atmos.

Sig Sigworth, President of Craft Recordings, said, “Working with Dolby, Universal Music, the band and the original production team behind Automatic, we have rejuvenated this classic album into an entirely new entertainment experience with Dolby Atmos.”

Dolby Atmos® enables the artist to work in brand new dimensions that were previously unavailable allowing them to deliver a truly immersive mix, placing the audience inside the recordings like never before.

“Automatic for the People amazes in Dolby Atmos,” said Curt Behlmer, Senior Vice President, Content Solutions and Industry Relations, Dolby Laboratories. “This mix transforms the listening experience and the overwhelming emotion of R.E.M.’s sound in Dolby Atmos.”

Universal Music Group (UMG), the global distribution partner of Concord Music Group, is providing marketing and promotional support for the Anniversary release. The Dolby Atmos version was mixed at UMG’s Capitol Studios in Hollywood, California.

“The Dolby Atmos remix adds an exciting new way to experience this iconic album,” said Michael Frey, President of UMG’s Operations and Advanced Media. “With Dolby Atmos, Automatic For The People delivers a powerful and emotional experience. At UMG, we’re working closely with artists, producers and other members of the creative community to release even more albums in this incredibly immersive format.”

Toto Returns To Melbourne #Review

Toto’s 2025 setlist focuses on the heritage of the band. The setlist was interesting. Compared to how it was curated for Australia in 2019 this time Toto kept to the albums of the 1900s. Mind you, there were no complaints from the audience for doing that. The biggest hits came from those early years.
