Rock and Roll legend Chuck Berry has died at age 90.
Berry was a pioneer of rock and roll becoming the influence for acts like The Beatles, The Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones who popularised his music for a global audience.
Berry was found unresponsive when police responded to a medical emergency at his home in St Charles County for a 90-year-old man. Local police later identified the man as Charles Edward Anderson Berry Sr.
Chuck received a lifetime achievement Grammy Award in 1984 and was one of the first inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
Berry’s music became the foundation of rock and roll. Songs like “Johnny B. Goode,” “Maybellene,” “Roll Over Beethoven,” “Sweet Little Sixteen,” “School Days,” “Rock and Roll Music,” “Back in the U.S.A.” and “Memphis, Tennessee”, all written in the 50s and 60s, formed the foundation of rock music for the next two generations.
The new album ‘Chuck’ was recorded to mark Berry’s 90th birthday last October. The album is dedicated to Chuck’s wife of 68 years Themetta, who he called ‘Toddy’.
