English backing singer Claudia Fontaine has died at the age of 57.

Fontaine sang on songs for Pink Floyd, The Jam, Joe Cocker and Tim Finn. Her backing vocals were heard on The Jam’s ‘Beat Surrender’, Joe Cocker’s ‘Across From Midnight’, Tim Finn’s ‘Can’t Do Both’, Pink Floyd’s ‘Pulse’ album and Elvis Costello’s ‘Punch The Clock’.

Her credits also include work with Howard Jones, The Specials, Heaven 17, Hothouse Flowers, Maxi Priest, Squeeze and Texas.

During the 1980’s Claudia Fontaine and Caron Wheeler had the collective Afrodiziak. Wheeler went on to Soul II Soul.

She was also lead singer on The Beatmasters 1989 single ‘Warm Love’.

At this point the cause of death is unknown.
