The Australian music industry is in shock following the sudden passing of David Humphreys in Perth this morning (September 4, 2012).
David was well-known in the touring business where he ran Sydney Superdome (Allphones Arena) between 2000 and 2011 and then relocated to Perth as the General Manager of the soon to be opened Perth Arena.
Allphones was taken over by AEG Ogden in 2008. In 2011, David, who began his career with the 7 Network in Perth, moved back to Perth in 2011 to run AEG’s new venue Perth Arena, due to open on November 10 this year with a performance by George Michael.
David became ill and was admitted to Perth hospital but suffered from heart failure this morning.
In a statement, AEG director Harvey Lister said, “We know that staff at both the Perth Arena pre-opening office and Allphones Arena as well as the broader AEG Ogden family will be devastated at today’s news. Our thoughts and prayers are with David’s children and extended family at this very sad time,” Mr Lister said.
David is survived by four children and five grandchildren. Funeral details will be confirmed soon.
