Jazz great Hugh Masekela has died in South Africa at the age of 78.
Masekela had a no 1 pop hit in 1968 with ‘Grazing In The Grass’. The record sold 4 million copies in the USA and earned him a Grammy nomination.
Masekela became a sort after session musician. He played in The Byrds ‘So You Want Yo Be A Rock and Roll Star’ and with Paul Simon on ‘Further To Fly’. Simon later took him on the Graceland world tour.
His last album was ‘No Borders’ in 2016.
Hugh Masekela died in Johannesburg of prostate cancer.
