Jim Diamond, best known for the solo hit ‘I Should Have Known Better’ and PhD’s ‘I Won’t Let You Down’, has died in London at age 64.

Diamond was a 16 year old in Glasgow when he formed his first band Jade. The band also featured bass player Chris Glen, who later joined the Sensational Alex Harvey Band.

Diamond joined Alexis Korner’s band then formed Bandit in 1976. That band featured Cliff Williams, who would leave to join AC/DC and is still with the band today.

Jim Diamond formed PhD with Tony Hyman and Simon Phillips in 1982. (Phillips, Hyman, Diamond (ie PhD).

Australia’s Hilltop Hoods sampled the song in 2014.

After PhD broke up Diamond had a solo hit with ‘I Should Have Known Better’.

Jim Diamond’s last album ‘City of Soul’ was released in 2011.

Diamond is survived by his wife, Christine, and two children Sarah and Lawrence.
