Lol Mason of City Boy and later The Maisonettes has died following a heart attack.

City Boy had two hits in Australia, ‘5-7-0-5’ in 1978 and ‘The Day The Earth Caught Fire’ in 1979. Both songs were produced by Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange before he became the producer of choice for AC/DC, Bryan Adams and Shania Twain.

Lol Mason formed City Boy with Steve Broughton in Birmingham in the early 1970s. Broughton would later go on to write ‘She Bop’ and ‘The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough’ for Cyndi Lauper.

By the early 80s it was all over for City Boy and Lol Mason formed The Maisonettes. They had a 1983 UK hit with ‘Heartache Avenue’.
