Wa Wa Nee’s Paul Gray has lost his battle with myeloma at age 53.
Paul will be remembered for his versatility in the Australian music industry, pop sensibility and ability to adapt to the changing industry over time.
Gray had his earliest success as songwriter and frontman for 80s pop band Wa Wa Nee. Wa Wa Nee had a string of hits in the 80s starting with ‘Stimulation’, ‘ I Could Make You Love Me’ and ‘Sugar Free’.
Wa Wa Nee’s self-titled debut also hit the low end of the Billboard chart in the USA in 1986. ‘Sugar Free’ reached no 35 in the USA.
Paul Gray built a long career in the Australian music industry as a musical director, working on many shows including the Countdown Spectacular 2 and Pure Hold Live tours.
He has been the keyboard player for Tina Arena, Renee Geyer and Human Nature as well as musical director for the Kate Ceberano and Friends TV series.
Paul also composed music for ad campaigns for Qantas, Motorola, Misubishi, VW, Nokia, Citibank, St George Bank, Sony and Canon.
