UK pop star turned priest Peter Skellern has died from brain cancer at the age of 69.

Skellern had a global hit in 1972 with ‘You’re A Lady’. The song reached no 2 in 1972 in Australia and no 3 in the UK.

The song was covered in France as ‘Vous ma lady’ and then later than year again in France by Brigitte Bardot and Laurent Vergez.

Skellern went on to have some other minor hits in the UK including ‘Hold On To Love’ (no 14) and ‘Love Is The Sweetest Thing’ (no 60).

Peter wrote the lyrics to the song ‘One More Kiss Dear’ for the hit sci-fi movie Blade Runner in 1982 and in 1983 formed a band he called Oasis with Apple Records pop star Mary Hopkin and Julian Lloyd Webber, brother of Andrew.

Skellern was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer in October 2016. It was then he decided to fulfil a life-long ambition and became a priest in the Church of England.

Peter Skellern died on March 14. He is survived by wife Diana and two children.
