Professor Stephen Hawking, one of the greatest minds of the past century has died at the age of 76.
Hawking’s children Lucy, Robert and Tim released the following statement announcing their father’s passing.
“We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today.
“He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years.
“His courage and persistence with his brilliance and humour inspired people across the world.
Hawking was a regular guest of sitcom ‘The Big Bang Theory’.
Stephen Hawking suffered Motor Neurone Disease since the 1960s. By the 70s his speech had also deteriorated but his genius soared regardless. He was a lifetime supporter of the Labour Party in the UK and the Democratic Party in the USA. He campaigned for nuclear disarmament, stem cell research, universal health care and climate change prevention.
He has written children’s fiction, was sampled in the Pink Floyd song ‘Keep Talking; and appeared in an episode of The Simpsons.
“He once said, ‘It would not be much of a universe if it wasn’t home to the people you love.’
“We will miss him forever,” his children said.
