Actor Rip Torn, who played opposite David Bowie in ‘The Man Who Fell To Earth’, has died at his home in Connecticut at the age of 88.
Torn (born Elmore Rual Torn Jr) had a prolific career dating back to his first movie ‘Baby Doll’ in 1956 which also starred Karl Malden and influenced Courtney Love’s Kinderwhore Fashion of the 90s.
Torn’s roles Dr Nathan Bryce in The Man Who Fell To Earth with David Bowie and Zed in ‘Men In Black’. He also directed ‘The Telephone’ with a screenplay by Harry Nilsson.
Between 1992 and 1988 Torn was known as Artie in the cult TV series The Larry Sanders Show.
In recent years Torn guest starred in ‘Will & Grace’, ‘Law and Order: Criminal Intent’ and ’30 Rock’.
