Ross Higgins, the star of Kingwood Country, the Naked Vicar and the voice of Snap, Crackle and Pop for Rice Bubbles, has died in Sydney at age 86.
Higgins had been in hospital for a number of weeks and had been unwell for sometime, his friend and former colleague Tony Sattler told the ABC.
Higgins rose to national fame as Ted Bullpitt, the lovable racist with the catch-phrase, “you’re not taking the Kingswood”. The show ran from 1980 to 1984 and was reprised as ‘Bullpitt’ for two seasons in 1997.
Ross Higgins began his career as a child singer and his voice kept him employed for an entire career. In his early days he toured with Slim Dusty and Mel Torme.
The Ted Bullpitt character first appeared in the comedy sketch show The Naked Vicar Show.
Ross Higgins was also one of Australia’s most sort after voice over artists. He played the voices of Snap, Crackle and Pop in the Rice Bubbles ads of the 70s and 80s.
