Sharon Jones of soul and funk band The Dap Kings, has lost her battle with cancer at age 60.
In 2013 Sharon was initially diagnosed with bile duct cancer. It was later discovered she had stage II pancreatic cancer. She delayed the release of her album ‘Give The People What They Want’ while she underwent chemotherapy.
The cancer resurfaced in 2015.
Sharon Jones is considered one of the great soul singers of the 21st century. Other artists respected her and wanted to work with her. Sharon has toured as a backing singer for Lou Reed and n 2009 appeared on the Michael Buble album ‘Crazy Love’ singing ‘Baby (You’ve Got What It Takes)’.
The first Dap Kings album ‘Dap Dippin’ with Sharon King and the Dap-Kings’ was released on her own Daptone label in 2002.
Throughout her entire career, Sharon remained an indie artist.
