Stephen Lewis, the actor who played grumpy bus depot foreman Cyril ‘Blakey’ Blake, has died at the age of 88.
Lewis was Inspector Blake in the loved British comedy from 1969 to 1973. The character for spin-off series ‘Don’t Drink The Water’ in 1974 to 1975 with Blakey now retired and living in Spain. ‘On The Buses’ also generated three films ‘On The Buses’ (1971), Mutiny On The Buses’ (1972) and ‘Holiday On The Buses’ (1973).
Stephen Lewis appeared in over a dozen other movies including ‘Staircase’ in 1969 and ‘The Krays’ in 1990 with Gary and Martin Kemp from Spandau Ballet.
At age 78 Anna Karen (Olive Rudge) is now the last surviving member of the ‘On The Buses’ cast.
