Steve Strange, singer of 80s act Visage who had the hit song ‘Fade To Grey’ has died at age 55 from a heart attack.

Steven Herrington aka Steve Strange passed away in a hospital in Egypt.

Herrington created his Strange character at the height of the punk movement in the UK in 1976.

Steve Herrington hung with Jean-Jacques Burnel and the Stranglers and then hooked up in London with Malcolm McLaren. His first band The Moors Murderers was funded by Stewart Copeland, who would soon join The Police.

Herrington evolved into Steve Strange and formed Visage with Midge Ure, who would later form Ultravox. Visage signed with Polydor Records and released the song ‘Fade To Grey’. The song became a global hit.

The death of Steve Strange was confirmed by his label manager Marc Green. Steve died in his sleep of heart failure. Steve’s family, band members and friends are all distraught at this sudden news of his untimely death. Steve’s family request privacy at this extremely difficult time.”

REVIEW: Midge Ure, Melbourne, April 10, 2015

The mark of a great song is not the size of the production but how that song sounds with just one voice and one instrument. Midge Ure has a lot of “great” songs.
