R. Kelly has been hit with a lawsuit by his former landlord over property damages.
Bosses at SB Property Management Global, LLC filed the lawsuit earlier this week (ends17Aug18), claiming two properties he rented in Atlanta, Georgia in 2015, 2017, and 2018 had been wrecked.
R. Kelly was evicted from the homes in February (18), after which building officials found “extensive damage (that was) beyond normal wear and tear”.
They are reportedly the same homes that were targeted by burglars last year (17).
Authorities issued a warrant for one of the singer’s associates, Alfonso Walker, in December after he was named as the brains behind the thefts in the Atlanta area over America’s Thanksgiving holiday in late November, while the star was on tour.
Walker surrendered to cops at Johns Creek Police Department in December, and was subsequently booked on two counts of burglary, two charges of theft by taking, and a further two for theft by deception.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Kelly and the property managers reached a settlement in April, in which he agreed to pay $170,000 (£133,500), which would release him from “claims arising from the damages”. He reportedly paid $20,000 (£15,700) that same month, but allegedly failed to hand over the remaining balance.
The property managers’ lawyers sent a letter to Kelly demanding the outstanding sum in June, but it has yet to be paid. They are now seeking $203,400 (£159,800).
Meanwhile, Kelly also rented a third property in the area, which was part of a 2017 investigation into accusations suggesting the 51-year-old was running a sex cult.
The singer stands accused of manipulating several women into coercive sexual relationships from two sets of parents, who claimed he brainwashed their daughters and other women, and recorded his sexual encounters with them.
Police officials paid a visit to the home after receiving the complaints, but did not take any further action.
Kelly has previously denied all allegations against him, and one of the women, Joycelyn Savage, spoke out to dismiss her parents’ claims.
