Radiohead’s stage for their Toronto concert collapsed on Saturday (June 16, 2012) killing one person.
40,000 fans were on their way to the venue at Downview Park when the accident happened. They were officially told that the concert had been cancelled when they arrived at the gig.
Doors were to open at 5pm. The stage collapsed at 4pm. Around 2000 people were already inside the venue at the time of the accident. They were evacuated from the park.
Radiohead.com posted the message, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Radiohead show at Downsview Park tonight has been cancelled. Fans are advised not to make their way to the venue.”
Police have confirmed one person was killed and another taken to hospital in a serious condition. Two more received minor injuries. Police are now investigating the accident.
No members of Radiohead were on stage at the time of the accident.The concert was cancelled.
This is the second recent accident of its kind in Canada. A stage collapsed at the Cheap Trick concert in Ottawa last year killing three.
