Country singer Randy Travis underwent surgery on Wednesday night after suffering a stroke.
Travis’ publicist, Kirt Webster, said that the surgery was to relieve pressure on the singer’s brain. He was already in the hospital in critical condition suffering from congestive heart failure brought on by viral cardiomyopathy which damaged his heart muscle. A small pump was placed in his heart earlier in the week to help it continue to pump blood.
Earlier on Wednesday, Travis’ doctors issued a statement saying that his condition had stabilized and that he had started to show signs of improvement.
Webster issued a statement Wednesday evening saying “His family and friends here with him at the hospital request your prayers and support.”
Travis remains in critical condition.
