19-year old Brooklyn rapper Capital Steez has died, presumed by suicide.
Jamal Dewar, aka Capital Steez, was one of the “up-and-coming rappers” of Brooklyn, according to Billboard magazine.
Capital Steez is thought to have taken his life after posting his final tweet “The end”. He died on Christmas Eve.
His death was confirmed by his collaborator Joey Badass who posted, “This unfortunate xmas eve.. Lost a best friend, a brother, a pro, a partner. Letting go is never easy.. May ur soul rest in peace Jamal..”.
Capital Steez was part of The Pro Era, a collective featuring new rappers Dirty Sanchez, CJ Fly, Kirk Knight, A La $ole, Kwon, Chuck Strangers and Nyck Caution.
A statement at The Pro Era website reads “thank you for all your thoughts and prayers,” with a picture of Dewal.
