Angie Stone has been arrested in Atlanta for allegedly hitting her 30-year-old daughter with a metal stand and knocking out her front teeth.
DeKalb County Police told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that Diamond Stone claims that her mother first hit her with clenched fists before after demanding that she control her children, Angie Stone’s grandchildren. The police report states “Ms. Diamond Stone then went on to state that Ms. Angie Stone started (getting) in her face, telling her she needed to leave because she is tired (of) her. Ms. Diamond Stone then stated her and Ms. Angie Stone started to argue, and that’s when a physical altercation started to occur.”
Diamond Stone stated she walked away after being hit and called the police. Angie Stone said that, after hitting her daughter, she tried to walk away but Diamond Stone continued to follow her in an attempt to hit her.
Angie Stone is being held on charges of aggravated aggressive assault. Diamond Stone was not charged.
Stone first hit the big time in 1979 as a member of the group The Sequence which recorded for Sugar Hill Records and had a number 15 R&B hit with Funk You Up. Gwendolyn “Blondie” Chisolm, another member of the group, was present during the assault.
Stone went on to a successful solo career with albums like Stone Love (2004 / #14 Pop / #4 R&B) and The Art of Love and War (2007 / #11 Pop / #1 R&B).
